My first Misery Paddle Tour took us "up" the Sturgeon River Slough outside of Chassell, MI in 2016.  This trip was the first test of the loop paddle trip hypothesis.  If we paddled up the Arnheim Ditch and hop onto the defunct Snake River, could we actually reach our start point without a shuttle?  Despite the (then) very miserable conditions, we succeeded in our quest.  Blow downs were minimal, beaver dams oppressive, and duckweed thick on the backwaters of the Snake "River"  Though we only accomplished 9.6 miles in six hours, I was hooked.
